The Writing is on the wall (and in some other places too). As inspectors, we are generalists. Much like your family Doctor, our knowledge is spread across different areas. To maintain licensing and various certifications, we participate in continuing education on a pretty constant basis. There are always new products and new construction methods to learn about. That said, it is not possible to know everything about everything. We need to take advantage of every opportunity to learn more about systems and components and how they should be installed and used safely. One way to do that is by looking at manufacturer’s labels. It’s a simple, commonsense approach that gives us good information. Besides, who knows more about a product than the people who made it?
